Lindsay Phillips debut album "Varning" coming soon ...
Monday, July 27, 2009 at 11:09AM They don't make records like "Varning" any more, which is one of the reasons we found it so captivating.
Like all outstanding artists, Lindsay Phillips possesses the uncanny ability to absorb the spirit of past greats, meld this with his own experiences and then forge the result into a sound which is entirely his own.
Walk into any bar in Melbourne on any given night and you're likely to find an abundance of solo singer/songwriters. Yet, few of these many could manage to construct such a rich, varied and visceral collection of songs such as those which constitute "Varning".
This record recalls days long past, when an album was intended to be an immersive journey. A time when songwriting was a pure craft and when only the true and the brave survived.
Revolving around Lindsay's sonorous voice and razor sharp songwriting, the album transcends the simple tag of "folk" to become something else entirely. And even now, we're not sure what that is.
But this is the strength of the album. It is entirely its own creature.
We're extremely proud that this will be the first release from Departed Sounds. Lindsay's website is in the process of construction and as soon as it's up and running, full details will be posted here.
